How to remember world capitals

Capital Guess is easier when capitals are attached to countries and regions rather than memorized as an alphabetical list. Tokyo belongs to Japan, Ottawa to Canada, Canberra to Australia and Brasília to Brazil—but the less obvious capitals are where repeated retrieval matters most.

When you miss one, make a tiny association: city sound, location, history or a contrast with the country’s largest city. Canberra is useful precisely because Sydney is more famous; Ottawa stands out because Toronto is larger. Those contrasts create stronger memory hooks than repetition alone.
